Empowering Voices: Our Gender Equality Workshop at CGC College of Engineering

On a vibrant day at CGC Landran, Girl Power Talk had the privilege of hosting the ‘Gender Sphere: Redefining Equality’ workshop. It was organized by the Department of Computer Science Engineering and the Institution’s Innovation Council. The seminar was led by Aashna Duggal, Chief Legal Officer at Girl Power Talk, and Maninderjit Singh, an independent lawyer. Its goal was to educate the audience on key concepts related to gender bias and gender identity. It also aimed to familiarize them with the legal framework surrounding LGBTQ+ rights in India.

Aashna Duggal: Advocating for Inclusivity and Respect

Aashna Duggal, a lawyer and expert witness specializing in defamation, employment, gender diversity, and damages, brought her vast experience to the discussion. This was her first time speaking on such a sensitive topic. Also, marked a significant departure from her usual focus on legal matters and reputation management. She believes the seminar helped her achieve Girl Power Talk’s mission of changing lives “one person at a time”. She says, “Tonight, I’ll go to bed fulfilled, knowing I influenced at least one person’s life through the session.

Maninderjit Singh: Simplifying the Complexities of LGBTQIA+ Legal Protections

The event was co-conducted by, Maninderjit Singh, who is well-known for his dedication to justice and LGBTQIA+ rights. During the session, he broke down some intricate legal concepts and the legal system in India. He also ensured that even those unfamiliar with legal jargon could understand. His passion for inclusivity and equality resonated throughout the discussion. He also shared insights into the legal protections available to LGBTQIA+ individuals.

Positive Feedback and Future Aspirations

Both speakers were pleased by the positive feedback from the college faculty. The faculty encouraged them to conduct such events more frequently. Monali and Raj, the team members from Girl Power Talk who accompanied Aashna, found the event quite valuable. “The session was truly empowering. The moments like these remind me why we do what we do at Girl Power Talk”, said Monali.
