1. What Was Your Childhood Like and How Did It Shape Who You Are Today?
Growing up as the youngest and most lively member of my family, I was often described as “Chulbuli.” I thrived in a supportive environment. My love for dancing was always encouraged, but I grappled with academic challenges. I often received average marks and had to seek assistance from tuition teachers. Thankfully, my parents never pressured me; instead, they encouraged my extracurricular passions.
However, societal expectations and peer pressure regarding academic excellence were always looming. I constantly questioned my future, wondering if I would secure a fulfilling career. I felt torn between societal norms and my personal interests. A turning point came in middle school when I became more self-aware. This is when I was introduced to platforms like “MyElsa” and “SpeakSmart.” These platforms allowed me to explore beyond academics. Through them, I found mentorship that enriched my life both personally and professionally.I give a lot of credit to my mentors, Dolly Halder, Sreela Mitra, Sangeeta Basu and Kritika Bagaria. They believed in me and helped me find my path.
2. What Does a Typical Day in Your Life Look Like?
My days do not look identical ever. It is very dynamic depending on where we are and whether we have a workshop or not. Usually I start my day, refreshed and ready to tackle my goals. I focus on three main tasks, using a Productivity Planner (yes, those exist) to track everything. Also, time-blocking my day on Google Calendar to stay organized. Mornings begin with checking in with the team, where I delegate tasks and provide feedback. I also ensure that projects for Degree2Destiny are on track. Afterward, I spend time developing new course modules or shooting videos, for our course and social media channels.
Health is a priority, so I attend a weekly Kathak dance class and aim to walk 10,000 steps daily. Mid-morning, I take a break to enjoy breakfast with my family, catching up and sharing plans for the day. In the afternoon, I dive into content creation, working on LinkedIn posts and workshop materials. I also mentor students, guiding them on LinkedIn optimization and networking strategies. My workspace is designed to keep me motivated, with personal touches like motivational quotes and inspiring decor. Despite this, there are days when I don’t feel my best and choose to rest, even if it’s a Monday. However, this also means I sometimes work on weekends.
Family time is essential, so I carve out time in the late evening to unwind with them. Whether it’s having a cup of tea, playing a quick game, or simply chatting, these moments are very valuable. Evenings are for reflection and planning the next day. I review my goals, adjust my strategies, and set new targets. To boost productivity, I dress up sometimes if I am going through a slump or need an energy change. My day is a blend of disciplined work habits, creative tasks, meaningful human interactions, and cherished family time. All of this aims to drive the success of Degree2Destiny and my personal growth.
3. Tell Us About Your Professional Journey and How You Got to the Position You Are in Today.
It all began in high school, where I was actively leading various extracurricular activities despite facing academic challenges. My turning point came in middle school when I was introduced to platforms like “MyElsa” and “SpeakSmart”. These provided me with valuable mentorship and allowed me to explore interests beyond academics. These experiences ignited a passion for leadership and personal growth. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I discovered a keen interest in digital marketing, which led to internships in the field.
These opportunities provided hands-on experience and helped me develop essential skills. I took on leadership roles, including spearheading the creation of the SpeakSmart student wing, which further honed my abilities. One of my significant achievements was founding ‘WEvolve Together,’ an organization dedicated to challenging casual sexism alongside the podcast. This initiative underscored my commitment to making a difference and showcased my natural inclination toward leadership. Securing a place at Northeastern University was a dream come true. I was in London for my first year and then moved to Boston for my second year of college.
Despite the challenges of being a first-year student in a competitive job market, I recognized the potential of LinkedIn. I realized many students lacked active LinkedIn profiles and the skills to leverage this powerful tool. This insight led me to launch Degree2Destiny, a startup. This aimed at helping high school and college students become CAN (Communication, AI, Networking) Superstars. Degree2Destiny focuses on bridging the gap between academic achievements and career readiness. We offer interactive courses on LinkedIn mastery, personal branding, and effective networking.
The startup has received recognition and funding from Northeastern University’s Startup Founder Co-op program. This has been instrumental in our growth. I got the opportunity to move back to India and work on Degree2Destiny full-time for 6 months.
Today, as the founder of Degree2Destiny, I am proud to lead a team. A team that is dedicated to empowering students to achieve their career goals. My journey has taught me the value of resilience, hard work, and the importance of continuous learning. Each step, from discovering my passions to launching a startup, has shaped me into the leader I am today. It helped me commit to making a positive impact in the lives of students.
