  • Women have been leaders since the very beginning, it’s just now they are getting recognised.

“Women don’t need to find a voice, they have a voice, and they need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.” — Meghan Markle.

Need for Women Leadership Awards

Historically, women have been heavily underrepresented in leadership roles. Even though the situation is definitely better in contemporary society, it is still not ideal for women. In comparison to their male colleagues, they still face prejudice. They are rarely considered the first option for leadership roles despite having equal or better qualifications.

This is the case when diverse leadership has constantly been proven better for companies and other institutions. Women in leadership roles bring in better communication, inclusivity, improvement, and growth. This is the primary reason why there is a need for women’s leadership awards. Celebrating women’s leadership awards and sharing them with the world is important. It makes everyone realize how unnecessary discrimination leads to a loss of impeccable potential.

Awarding female leaders is not only an eye-opener for the world but also an inspiration for many other women. Due to a lack of opportunities, a lot of women do not even try to pursue leadership roles. They take the first step when they see a version of themselves getting appreciated in front of the world. That is, they start dreaming of the highest version of themselves.

Unsung Women Leaders

There are millions of such women who have worked distinguishably to make a mark in this world. But many of these women leaders weren’t recognised for the work they have done. Their values from which the entire world could learn have not been talked about enough.

One such example is Patsy Mink. Born in Hawaii, United States in 1927 she always wanted to be a part of the government. This wasn’t the time when women were encouraged as representatives to run the country. Patsy Mink was the first woman of color to be a part of the United States House of Representatives. She achieved all this despite encountering racism as the daughter of Japanese immigrant parents. She continued to be a member of the Democratic Party for 24 years. Persistence, hard work and most importantly believing in herself is what everyone can take away from her story. However many hurdles one may face, true determination wins all.

STEM has never been a female-friendly space. Women have had to explain themselves just to pursue knowledge. Antonia Novello has not only pursued but led the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as vice admiral. Not only this she served as the Surgeon General of the United States from 1990 to 1993. She was appointed by President George Bush, being the first woman to do so. She made history by being the first Hispanic woman to be entrusted with the public health responsibilities of the entire country.

These stories tell us women have been leaders since the very beginning, it’s now that they have started getting recognised. Celebrating and knowing their stories is not only inspiring for women, but for everyone who values learning from the best.

Conclusion:

Women leaders are doing phenomenally in every industry and institution. From time immemorial they have led the world to improve for the better. It is now the chance for the world to appreciate their work. Not just them but every woman moving forward should have no doubt that they have the potential to lead others. This is the reason it is important to promote women leadership awards.

FAQs:

Why is it important to reward women in leadership?

Women leaders is a relatively new concept, it was something which was frowned upon. Men were only considered fit to lead an organization, a company and a country. Awarding women leaders bars the society from having such notions and gives strength to the upcoming generations to believe in what is correct.

Who was one of the first women to become a leader?

Khertek Anchimaa-Toka was one of the first Heads of State. She served as the head of the parliament of Tuvan’s People’s Republic from 1940 to 1944. She encouraged women’s education during her reign and largely assisted the Soviet Union forces.

What makes women great leaders?

Women leaders create an inclusive environment. This is especially true for them as they realize the importance of being sidelined. Inclusivity promotes every person being valued and heard, which creates a better environment for everyone to work in. Awarding women leaders and showcasing their achievements allow the people to trust women’s abilities more and conduct them without any societal pressures.
